Upgrade Veterinary Laboratory In Ikire To Agric Training Center; Hon Taiwo Oluga Moves


A member of the House of Representatives, representing Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency, Hon Taiwo Oluga has canvassed the upgrade of facilities at the National Veterinary Research Laboratory in lkire, Osun State to an agriculturally based Vocational Training Center for the training of young school leavers and farmers.

She made the call in a motion she sponsored on the floor of the lower chambers of the National Assembly.

According to Hon Oluga, "the laboratory, which is one of the 23 outstations laboratories of the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI) was established in 1924 with the mandate to provide a broad range of activities to support animal production and health in Nigeria and beyond".


The Legislator emphasized that upgrading the facility to a training center for the training of young school leavers and farmers in Osun State.

The motion was well debated and consequently passed to relevant committee for further legislative actions.

Some of the provisions of the Motion include the following; "That the Ikire Outstation of the National Veterinary Research Institute be developed and upgraded into an Agricultural Based Vocational Training Center and a Livestock Training Center to empower Young School leavers and farmers.

- That the Federal Government to increase the Annual Statutory Allocation to the institute in the 2022 budget estimates.
- That the Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions to ensure compliance.

The Lawmaker also seconded a motion on the consolidation of the bill to for an Act to establish the Nigeria Police Academy as a Degree Awarding Institution to Provide Academic and Professional Training; and for Related Matters.
