In Ondo State; Civil Societies, Women Group Walk Against Sexual Assault.



As the world marks day against child labour, civil societies and women organisations in ondo state on Friday June 12 staged a walk against sexual assaults advocating the domestication of Violence Against Person Prohibition Acts VAPP to reduce increasing cases of abuse on children and women

Available statistics reveal that there has been increase cases of child labour in Nigeria since the outbreak of corona virus due to poverty, closure of schools, and restriction on movement and daily activities by government

Some Children found hawking on the streets spoke to Milestonenews, explaining that their families feed on the daily sales from the produce they hawked hence they were always on the streets from nine o clock in the morning to six o clock in the evening

Speaking on this trend ,the executive Directors ,kids and teens Resources centre ,Martin Mary falana and Mrs folasade Gbamigboye explained that most abuse cases were mostly recorded from children that hawked.

However, child labour in Nigeria is a serious offence and against the law ,the child rights law stipulates adequate punishment for perpetrators of child labour and abuses .

Also speaking the executive director Queen TKO foundation ,olori funmilayo Aladetoyinbo advocated stiffer penalty to abusers of women's right and called establishment of gender desk to tackle child abuse in the state .

Addressing the various civil society organisations on a walk at Adegbemile centre in Akure , the chairman house committee on women affairs and social development and chairman ondo state house of Assembly committee on gender issues Hon Favour Tomomewo said efforts were in top gear to domesticate the laws that would further protect women and girls


At a recent protest against abuses on women and girls, wife of the Governor,mrs betty Anyanwu- Akeredolu said government would restrategise to make the society more safe for women and girls.
