Fresh: COVID-19; Punch Layoffs Over 50 Staff.

One of the Nigeria leading Newspapers, Punch has sacked over 50 of its staff.

Milestonenews reliably gathered that the affected personnel were summoned to the main office in Magboro along Lagos Ibadan expressway where they were handed down their sack  letter.

According to the source, the reason given by the management of Punch Newspaper is that the economic situation of the country has made it impossible for the organization to retain such numbers of workforce.

One of the affected staff who 

spoke under a condition of anonymity hinted that those affected included journalists and advertisement personnel among others.

Investigation revealed that the decision of the Most widely read dailies in Nigeria is not unconnected with the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic which has led to the close down of many businesses world wide.

A senior Journalist who spoke on the matter expressed worry that such downsizing might spread to other media platforms, including Radio and Television.
